Primary Prevention Initiatives

At The Be There Group, we are deeply committed to primary prevention and empowering bystanders to take action against domestic and family violence (DFV), racism, sexism, bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, harassment and harm of any kind. Our philosophy centers on the belief that prevention is more effective than cure, driving our dedication to various initiatives across multiple sectors:

Education Sector

Year Ten DFV Unit at Moreton Bay Girls College: Delivered through the Health and Physical Education curriculum, this program educates students on recognising and preventing DFV.
'She Is Not Your Rehab' at Mabel Park State High School: A comprehensive event engaging the entire senior school to challenge and change perceptions around relationships and rehabilitation.
Whole School Community Training: Providing tailored training sessions for parents, teachers, and students to foster a unified approach to DFV prevention.

University and Higher Education Sector

Faculty of Engineering Staff Training: Specialised sessions aimed at integrating DFV awareness into engineering faculties.
Orientation Week and Semester Group Awareness: Ongoing DFV training initiatives to raise awareness among new and returning students.
Residential Advisor Mentoring: Equipping residential advisors with the skills to support peers and promote a safe campus environment.

Sports Sector

'Sports for Good' Program at Bond University and Beyond: Leveraging sports as a platform to promote positive behaviour and DFV awareness.
Ongoing partnership with the Queensland Sports Commission: recognising and effectively responding to domestic and family violence.

Partnership with Shock Therapy Productions: Collaborating on projects that address DFV themes through impactful storytelling.
Women of the World (WoW) Festival: Participating in global conversations to inspire action against DFV.
Voice of Change: Engaging in initiatives that amplify voices advocating for DFV prevention.

First Nations Communities

Torres Strait Engagement: Working closely with Torres Strait communities to tailor DFV prevention strategies that respect cultural contexts.

Faith Based Sector

Faith-Based Community Work: Led by Deb Candler and Hayden Whitworth, focusing on integrating DFV awareness within faith communities.

Grass Roots Communities

Division 9 Mudgeeraba and surrounds: whole of community primary prevention initiatives to end domestic and family violence through the role of the bystander.

Conferences and Local Communities

Conferences: Regular presentations, MC and panel members to conferences on leadership, engaging men and boys and the prevention of domestic and family violence.
Radio Stations and News: Our team are regularly interviewed for both radio and news events.

Government Sector

Fundraising: To ensure the 'She is not your rehab' book written by Matt and Sarah Brown is distributed amongst Queensland prisons.
Events and networking: Regular attendance at, facilitation of and Master of ceremonies for Queensland Government and Australian Government events.
